  • Do You Perform "Communal" or "Individual" Cremations?

Do You Perform "Communal" or "Individual" Cremations?

NO. We believe each pet deserves to be treated with the utmost care and dignity. Therefore we NEVER place more than one pet in a crematory unit at a time. This insures only your pet’s remains are delivered back to you – 100% guaranteed.

  • What’s The Difference Between “Private”, “Communal”, and “Individual” Cremation?

What’s The Difference Between “Private”, “Communal”, and “Individual” Cremation?

As defined by the Pet Loss Professionals Alliance and National Association of Pet Funeral Directors:

    • Private cremation involves only one pet in the cremation chamber at a time – no other pets are placed in the chamber until all of the remains from the previous pet are removed. Family Pet Memorial performs ONLY Private Cremations.

    • Individual cremationis defined as more than one pet is placed in the crematory and cremated at the same time with some form of separation between pets such as trays, refractory bricks, or space. Any time there is more than one pet in the cremation chamber at the same time but not to exceed ten pets.

Most companies offering "Mass", “Communal” or “Individual” cremation services cremate multiple pets at the same time. The pets are placed in a large crematory unit, either lying side by side, or separated by "chambers" or "Partitions" such as bricks, steel dividers, or in separate pans. When this is done, cremains are at risk of "Co-mingling", which means there is a likelihood of getting ash back from other pets as well as your own. Keep in mind that the cremation process involves very high heat, which makes the air inside the crematorium quite turbulent and volatile. This increases the probability of movement, shifting, and co-mingling of hair, bone, and ash.

At the time of your loss, the emotions of the moment can can make it difficult to clearly understand your options. The reason we describe and define these nuances in detail, is to help you better understand and differentiate between the various cremation options. This will help you make an informed decision regarding the type of service you find most appropriate for your pet. We have found that most people are generally unaware of the choices they have or the difference between cremation services. So, don't be afraid or timid questioning the person offering you afterlife care for your pet. Only you can decide what is right for your animal companion - so if you need more time to decide, ask for it. Arrangements can be made to give you the time you need to make an informed decision.
